About

Once upon a time, there was a girl who met a boy and fell in love with him. Eventually he caught up, and they got married!

She wanted to be a mommy, so 3 years later they got pregnant. They found out it was a girl.

"M" was born in 2009, and she was perfect.

She was deeply loved. We loved her so much, we decided to give her a little brother only 17 months after she was born!

But as she got older, we noticed she wasn't making much noise or trying to talk. By 20 months, her only word was "baby." She didn't seem to understand very much of what we were saying. And it wasn't getting better.

But she sure was cute...

Eventually she was evaluated and began speech and occupational therapy. But there were still no answers and more questions, and even more worry beginning to brew...

...until she started developmental preschool at 3 years old, and finally someone pointed us in the right direction. You can read about that here.

We got on the waiting list for a developmental psychologist, and found ourselves right where we expected we'd be: wading through the muddy and unknown waters of autism.

It's only been 4 days since the diagnosis as I start this blog. And it's hard.

But life is also amazing, and we are grateful for M and her little brother O.

This is my place to process, "think out loud," and track her progress. I hope if you've been touched by autism you'll stick around and feel a little less alone. And make a commitment to being happy! Life goes on, and it is still beautiful.
